Gotta fight for your right to Cabin

Have you seen The Cabin In The Woods? Well, have you? I wrote a piece on it for The Daily Telegraph and here's a sneak peek:

"THERE'S this guy called Joss Whedon, you may have heard of him.

He wrote and directed this year’s biggest movie, The Avengers, and created groundbreaking TV shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, to name a few.

Basically geeks worship at his altar.

What you’ve probably heard less about is his latest film The Cabin in the Woods, starring Chris Hemsworth.

That’s not surprising, considering Australian audiences weren’t meant to see it on the big screen.

Why? That’s a good question and one Village Roadshow was forced to answer after being bombarded by angry Whedonites in April when they announced it would be getting a straight-to-DVD release in Australia.

In the 24 hours after the news broke there were approximately 100 tweets per minute about “The Cabin in the Woods cop-out” as one user called it."

Finally - "How hard is it to kill nine-year olds?"

Like moths to the Paula Patton

Yep, that's right.

I'm trying to lure you in with sexy pictures of sexy ladies again. This week staring the ever-shaggable Paula Patton. I interviewed her earlier this week and here's what she had to say:

Paula: "Wow, I just love the FG Podcast so much. Maria Lewis has a great voice and Marc Furmie is so insightful. That Joseph Sims is kinda British, but I dig him. You should definitely download it for free on iTunes. Right now. NOW."

Straight from the sexy horse's mouth. Episode two of the FG Podcast is up now, featuring an interview with eighties child star Noah Hathaway from The Neverending Story.

Did I mention it's free? Get all up on it.

Anyway…MY FIRST PODCAST IS UP! Well, the first episode of The FG Podcast which I host so woooo. It also features talented filmmakers Joseph Sims, Marc Furmie and Shiyan Zheng.

A spot of movie deja-vu

My newest, most sparkly and freshest film column is up at The Daily Telegraph.

This week I take a look at the curious case of cinema doppelgangers - movies like The Prestige and The Illusionist, or Megamind and Despicable Me.

Here's a preview:

"IT'S the cinematic equivalent of turning up to a party in the same outfit as someone else: two films that look so similar they're always spoken about in the same breath as one another.
Think No Strings Attached and Friends With BenefitsDante’s Peak and Volcano or, more recently, Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Hunstman.
Cinema doppelgangers are not uncommon. Every year you have at least a few clusters of copy-cat films.Like a game of Memory we turn over the pairs and take a look at the strange circumstances that create clone films."

You can read the full story HERE. If I've left any out please chuck a comment at the bottom of the story and add your suggestions.

Yes we Cannes!

The 65th annual Cannes Film Festival kicks off in a matter of hours so, fittingly, I wrote an online column about what a load of rubbish it is.

You can read, comment, Facebook, RT and all the other glorious things you can do on the inter-webs by heading over to The Daily Telegraph.

Enjoy.

Avenge this, baby

Avengers. Is. Everything.
Read my full review-column-hybrid over at The Daily Telegraph HERE.

A snippet:

"THE Avengers is the greatest action movie since Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Need further proof?

How about hundreds of fans embracing each other on George St at 3am in the morning after attending midnight screenings?

For the hardcore geeks out there - myself included - The Avengers is the accumulation of some of pop culture’s greatest superheroes. Together. In one movie.

It connects the crumbs and clues Marvel Studios have been leaving in their films since Iron Man and it doesn’t disappoint."
