Movie Mazzupial's 10 best films of 2010

Okay, okay, I’ve dangled the carrot long enough. This has been a week of movie lists; the best soundtracks of 2010, best movie posters of 2010, worst films of 2010 and gold star films of 2010 (I'd post the links to these articles, but if you're too lazy to scroll down the page then you don't deserve to read them *hmph*). Of course they were all a precursor to the big one – my list of top 10 movies of 2010. Without further ado, let the countdown begin . . .
10 - A Single Man
9 - Fantastic Mr Fox
8 - Centurion
7 - Boy
6 - Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
5 - The Princess and the Frog
4 - In The Loop
3 - Kick-Ass
2 - The Fighter
1 - Inception
To look back on 2009 with reflective indignation, dig my best and worst lists.

Favourite Movie Friday with Tinie Tempah

For the final edition of Favourite Movie Friday for 2010 I present UK rapper Tinie Tempah! He’s performing in my town on Sunday night with N.E.R.D and Chromeo so it seemed appropriate.

"Do you know what? I really, really like The Usual Suspects, Seven, to deviate from that The Wedding Crashers, The Hangover was incredible, what else? The first original Saw, the concept is great, This Is England by Shane Meadows . . . we could do this forever, I’m all about movies. I could some high concept Indian movies in there but I also love a feel good movie. I’m a big Disney fan, I love a big cheesy love story where the hero gets the girl and there’s a happy ending. Oh and Slumdog Millionaire. "

MM: A lot of rappers have branched out into acting later on, is that something you could see yourself doing?

"Most definitely, I love films. If I could ever do a movie I would have to play a character completely unlike me, like a villain or something. It would be great to get into character and let people see a different side of me."

Book, line and sinker

My New Year’s resolution for 2010 was to read more books and since I graduated uni, there was simply no reason to feel guilty reading a book for leisure when I should be reading a textbook. I also joined a book club where we don't exactly have a set book each month, but rather we share whatever we have read with the group and swap books. So I kept track of the titles and decided to post the list come year’s end, for better or worse. With my resolution still undecided for next year, here’s the list of titles I read this year, with stars next to the ones I re-read because they were just so darn enjoyable. In no particular order:

Pretty much one a week and next year I'm going to be keeping a list again, which I will update monthly. I plan on trying to get through a bit more literature. I got a Borders voucher from my family for Christmas and already have a handy list to start off with come tomorrow, in no particular order: 1984 - George Orwell, The Scarecrow - Michael Connelly, Lonely Werewolf Girl - Martin Millar, The Bone Collector - Jeffrey Deaver, Torment - Lauren Kate. And from the lovely ladies at book club: the whole Chronicles Of Narnia series and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - Seth Grahame-Smith.

Movie Mazzupial's gold star films of 2010

My gold star films are basically the highly commended flicks of the year, with some oh-so-close to making the top 10 best of the year (hello The Ghost Writer, Monsters, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Teenage Paparazzo) and other just that darn good they deserved a mention. Stick ‘em on the fridge kids: Tune in tomorrow for the big finale, on the last day of the year I'll reveal my list of top 10 films of 2010.

Movie Mazzupial's 10 worst films of 2010

And so, as promised, yet another of my annual movie lists. Overall 2010 has been a pretty standard year for cinema. There have been the solid efforts like The Kids Are All Right, the groundbreakers like Inception, and the disappointments like Iron Man 2. Then there have been the baddest of the bad, like Charlie St Cloud. The films that have irked me so much, I dare put them on my list of 10 worst films of 2010. In no particular order:

Sex and the City 2
Letters To Juliet
The Last Airbender
Valentine's Day
Greenberg
Skyline
Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky
30 Days of Night: Dark Days
Dear John
The Book Of Eli
So there you have it. Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments section below.
